If you want to become a Freemason and a member of Adelaide Lodge…
Consider these points:
- As it is a fraternal organization, you must be a male.
- You must be 18 years of age or older
- You must believe in a supreme being, or ‘presence’
- You must be of good character
- You must provide a current police clearance certificate
- You will be required to give the names of six people (males or females) who will act as referees and agree to speak about your character
- If you do not already have a ‘proposer’ (a person who will support your candidature) a Lodge member will be appointed to get to know you and take you ‘under his wing’, so to speak, and another will become your ‘seconder’
- A ‘Committee of Enquiry’ comprising 2 men who have been appointed to the task will speak to you and your referees
- Your name will be advertised around the Lodges as a candidate and be put before members in an open ballot at your proposed Lodge
- A successful ballot to join our ranks will lead you to your first ‘degree ceremony’ which you will find very interesting. There is absolutely nothing of an embarrassing, or physical/emotional nature that will make you feel uncomfortable. If you enjoy history, you will find it very interesting
- Afterwards there will be a ‘supper’ called the ‘Festive Board’ where your ‘proposer’ will say a few remarks about you, and you will be asked to respond
- The Lodge has a ‘dress code’ of a ‘dinner suit’ or dark lounge suit (a ‘uniform’ where all men appear equal. A dinner suit/lounge suit is the clothing where you can only ‘dress down’ in anything else)
- On completing your degrees (3) and you become a ‘Master Mason’ you will need a bag to carry a Masonic Apron and your own ‘Volume of the Sacred Law’
- The fee for joining Adelaide Lodge is $240 p a and a once-only Grand Lodge fee of $50
